  • Online performance management and assessment

Employee performance evaluation is both an evaluative process and a communication tool.  Performance appraisal may be defined as a structured formal interaction between a subordinate and supervisor, in which the work performance of the subordinate is examined and discussed, with a view to identifying weaknesses and strengths as well as opportunities for improvement and skills development.

Traditionally, supervisors and employees are reluctant to do employee performance evaluation.  For one thing, the appraisal is seen as a boring, useless and time-consuming process; and on the other hand, as a biased and unfair means to encourage the favorites and punish the unfavorites.

During the appraisal process, many HR officers have to hear phrases like “I’m short of time, I’d rather do my job than pursue scores,” or “What is the point and reason of doing it?”  In fact, such standpoint is true, as far as two main preconditions are generally ignored during the performance appraisal; i. e. result orientation on the part of both supervisors and employees, and the unbiased feedback.
